New minimum wage: End impasse now – NLC tells FG

The federal govt has been urged by the NLC to conclude negotiations for the consequential salary adjustment of the N30, 000 new national minimum wage.

The NLC vice president, Benjamin Anthony, said national minimum wage is the floor for decent wages; insisting that without decent wages, there can’t be decent work.

Anthony said workers are tired of functioning in a world where they are exposed to worsening health and safety situations with increased cases of deaths and injuries at work The federal government has been urged by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) to conclude negotiations for the consequential salary adjustment of the N30, 000 new national minimum wage so that all workers would have a reason to smile at the end of November.

The call was made by the NLC’s vice president, Benjamin Anthony, while speaking on the sideline of the 2019 World Decent Work Day in Abuja on Monday, October 7, Daily Trust reports.

He said: “We call on all tiers of government in Nigeria to commence full implementation of the N30,000 national minimum wage.” Anthony said workers are tired of functioning in a world where they are exposed to worsening health and safety situations with increased cases of deaths and injuries at work.

Meanwhile, 180nobs.com previously reported that the Ekiti state governor, Kayode Fayemi, opened up on the plans of Nigerian governors on the issue of the controversial N30,000 new minimum wage.

Fayemi, who is also the chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, said on Sunday, October 6, that governors will pay 9% of the approved minimum wage. The governor also denied reports that his colleagues were divided on the issue of minimum wage implementation across the nation.
