Considering how packed the final few weeks of 2020 was, it came as little surprise that January started off slow. Many artists took the opportunity to roll out videos for singles released in November and December, and only started dropping fresh jams by mid-month. Regardless, the month ended strong with potential hits from some of our faves.

Sarkodie ft. Moelogo – Come Back

A signature hip-hop tune with a melodic hook from Sarkodie and Moelogo. The Ghanaian rapper has locked in this formula.

Ayra Starr – Away

Looks like 2021 will be the year of the new ladies in the industry. Mavin Records threw their hats in the ring in terms of having 2021’s breakthrough act by unveiling new, young signing, Ayra Starr. Her self-titled debut EP is a must-listen.

Jonzing World – One Shirt ft. Ruger, D’Prince, Rema

Another Mavin January reveal was in the form of Jonzing World signing, Ruger. Keep an eye on this kid.

Mr Eazi – The Don

As we await new projects from Mr Eazi in 2021, here’s something to keep the fans glued in.

Dangbana Republik x Bella Shmurda – Rush

Bella Shmurda is a strong candidate for Next-Rated Artist of 2020. The hotshot act recently celebrated his birthday with a new song “Rush“. Here it is.

Zoro ft. Oxlade – African Girl Bad

This is a love-at-first-listen typa jam! Zoro & Oxlade deliver an anthem for all the ladies across Africa.

What could be seen as the biggest collaboration of the month sees Kizz Daniel feature Olamide, Falz and LK Kuddy on a record title “Currently“.

It’s got that Amapiano vibe.

Quamina MP – WHY ft. Twitch 4EVA

Amanfuor Girls” hitmaker, Quamina MP, dropped a 3-track EP “Bongo” sometime last month. One of the early fan faves is the Twitch collabo, WHY.

Ckay – Kiss Me Like You Miss Me

Warner Music SA signing, Ckay drops his 2nd single under the label.

Ckay is doing this Afro pop/fusion thing really well.

Bankulli ft. Not3s – Foreign

A major behind-the-scenes proponent of the culture, Bankulli serves up a new single featuring British-Nigerian rapper “Not3s“, who was in Lagos over the holidays.

Yung L – Womanizer ft. Tiggs Da Author

J-Town’s very own Yung L just released his latest album, Yaadman Kingsize. My personal early fave has to be “Womanizer“.
