It is sad that herdsmen have become one of the scariest people in Nigeria and no one wants to fall victims of them. Every now and then, there are stories of alleged attacks from herdsmen and people are beginning to wonder what they really want from people.
One state these herdsmen have allegedly targeted is Anambra State and it was said that the attack killed three people and left a lot of those who managed to escape with life-threatening injuries.
Oke Jideofor, one of the victims narrated his ordeal saying that he was attacked by gunmen and shot on his way to Achalla community which is a stone throw from his area. Oke’s injury was so bad that he was plastered around his hands, legs and head.
“The people shot me on my way to Achalla. They were about three in number,” he said
He also mentioned how he saw people being killed while he was kidnapped by these men.
“That woman that was killed, I was with her in the same vehicle. My right hand is paralysed because of the injury I sustained. The woman was beaten to death. They dragged me into the bush.
I was released when my wife paid N1m ransom. They killed a man from Achalla in the same ara. His people raided the bush to avenge his death but the suspects ran away.”
It is not the first time herdsmen have allegedly attacked people in the East. Similarly eight people were said to have been killed in Enugu after herdsmen attacked them.
An anonymous eyewitness said that eighteen persons were massacred at Ishielu, Ebonyi stated and ten other persons were also killed by the rampage of the suspected killer herdsmen.
The anonymous witness further stated that
“We are mourning, we are in serious mourning since late hours of Monday. Herdsmen invaded our communities and massacred our people. As we speak, 18 persons were slaughtered like animals. They matcheted many of our people, burnt vehicles, motorcycles and looted our properties”.
DSP Loveth Odah, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state said
“The Commissioner of Police delegated a team of policemen for on-the-spot assessment because of peace talks going on in the town. So, the Commissioner of Police delegated the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations and others who went for an on-the-spot assessment to enable us to get the details of the report. They are yet to come back.”
Governor Dave Umahi vehemently condemned the killings and visited the site where the violent attacks were perpetrated. The Governor stated that “We feel so sad that this kind of thing should happen in our state. I am going to escalate this to the highest authorities in the country to ensure these people don’t get away with this
It has become a thing of concern for people as it seems like these herdsmen are becoming more evil by the day. People still cannot understand how these men moved from cattle rearers to becoming a big menace in the society.
